All Algebra II teachers give a common set of PSSA quizzes to help students prepare for their 11th grade PSSA test. I am taking those quizzes and turning them into paperless activities. The formula sheet that students are allowed to use anytime during the PSSA has been scanned in and is available as a pdf on my Algebra II course moodle. I am turning the multiple choice and short answer quizzes into hot potato quizzes so students can access them on my moodle site. For the open-ended questions where students are expected to show all of their work and write an explanation of their solution, I am planning to use voice thread for at least the explanation portion.
Great idea! I love the idea of using the voice thread, asking them to explain their open-ended. This is something that is extremely difficult for them and this is a good way of making them practice. Plus they can then hear other's responses!
I would have to agree with Connie about the voicethread being challenging but great assessment at the same time. Perhaps one of your students explanations will turn the light bulb on for another student who didn't understand other ways a problem was explained.
Students have been trained in writing their explanations with the Rubrics from elementary school so this is definately a reasonable expectation.
