In working with homebound students I am always looking for new avenues to bring material to a student and to keep the presentation concise as well as informational. I can only plan so far ahead since the homebound students are diverse in grade level as well as their section level. My initial reaction was that I can now take labs from 7th grade science, 10th grade biology and biology II directly from the classroom and play them for students giving them a feel for the material instead of looking at one-dimensional pictures.

To take the labs to a students home I will need to coordinate with the science teacher and IT making sure that the teacher has access to a video doc camera and any coordinating software.  The teacher would need to plan and record the lab.  I can then review the lab before showing the student and augment with a short quiz from Hot Potato so I am sure that they understood the information.

In a more traditional sense the course has given me additional options for taking the mountains of paper I have after working with a student and store for  background when dealing with students in the same topics, but not with the same teachers. Sometimes there is information on tests and quizzes that the teachers forget to provide and it will give me a fall back.

Jan,

The idea of recording labs is excellent.  It will be much more beneficial for the students to see the labs.  It would be wonderful if all the teachers could record the labs and have them posted on  their Moodle for your use... a future plansmile
