The concept of digital natives and immigrants is valid, yet the attack on how many teachers approach curriculum inside their classroom seems a little shaky. Can you increase technology in your classroom and better engage your students, sure, but to suggest that things like Euclidean Geometry and doing math without a calculator should fall out of society like Latin has removed itself as a spoken language is ludicrous. Technology is great and has a role in the classroom, but logic and problem solving skills are still essential and many of the “old-school” methods of teaching are still critical for our student’s educational success. Differentiated instruction is the key, there is no single style of learning that can cover all learners and all subjects, not even technology.
Hey - the Pope and I are close! We're like bestest buds with the Latin...
But more seriously, are we preparing students for college where professors still speak the "old" language?
I agree that there definitely needs to be a balance. Students/children need to be aware that not everything will go their way, either!
