after reading this article I would have to say yes and no. There are some people that find out the news they need to know by watching the news or reading the newspaper. If the information is personal or about a family member they can still communicate the old fashion way by picking up the phone and calling who ever. I don't think you have to be tied down to a computer of smart phone to see and know what is going on in the world around you. then there are some people that over abuse having social media. Not everyone want to know what you had for breakfast or what your whole list of events are for the day, week, ect.
On the other hand, I have found that using twitter for my purposes in education can really benefit me in my classroom. I like the fact that I can pick and choose what I want to see. To be honest I had no idea how many good tweets were out there about education. I feel that with being a first year teacher i have learned so much more behind the scenes that I wasn't sure about before. I can now keep in touch with the parents of my students or give them some of the resources that are available to me and I can make available for them as well.
So I could definitely argue both sides of the questions but I can say yes it will help me in my years to come. However I still enjoy picking up the phone and calling family instead of finding important information out on social media. I will continue to us Twitter to gather my information and also give out the information that I have learned. I enjoy what I have learned so far!
