Every person will think differently if one way to communicate versus another is right or wrong. Every social media page has pros and cons. As educators, I think it is vital to use any academic or credible sources that we are able to find. Why make our heads spin, when we can find our answers to our questions, find research, or help others with a click of a button?
As an educator, I believe Twitter is necessary. We can use Twitter to communicate with others, discuss and share information we find useful, especially coming from a meeting or conference, and we can connect. We can connect with scholars, with other educators, with articles and with websites, all of which make us a better educator. We can use this information to our advantage. We do not need to fly across the country to attend a conference, but instead, we can still have a voice through live tweets. When we use the resources we have in-front of us, we are becoming receptive to learn new things and in new ways.
Twitter has follower structure, link-sharing, real-time searching. Everything Twitter has to offer is right in front of us, with a few searches, hashtags, followers/following, a laptop or cellphone.
No, not every person must use a Twitter or have an account, but after researching everything that Twitter has to offer, it is a huge resource for anyone. You just have to look in all the right places, have a little time, and let the magic of social media happen. Do not get caught up in "what someone had for breakfast" or where they were doing their gym workout at, but rather, look at the information that we can gather and put it to good. Use the information we can get to help us become better teacher/educators/people.
