I agree that, as educators, we need to incorporate technology into our classrooms. However, there is still the need for tradtional methods. In science, the students need to master the scientific method, which is a step by step, logical process for  learning science. The multi-tasking, random approach used by the digital natives is not going to lead to new scientific discoveries unless the student has first learned to apply the more logical, traditional, scientific method.

While I have often thought of the scientific method as being one of the most important concepts I ever learned in school, I am reading a book called "The Onmivore's Dilemma" in which the author investigates the complicated process of our food chain.  At one point, he discusses how agonomists have looked to the scientific method to "solve" soil problems with one quick fix (fertilizers in particular).  He states that by relying solely on the scientific method, we miss run the risk of missing complicated mysteries.

As always, balance, balance, balance.
