Having raised two sons, one now in college, one going into 10th grade, I see the validity in adding more technology into teaching. However, there is still a great need for teaching "old school" style. While I have witnessed my sons' use of technology, like texting, it has hampered their spelling. Additionally, basic number facts like multiplication are still important, as many college courses are not allowing calculators.
I agree. In fact, it may be even more important that students are exposed to the tradtioal, step by step type of logical learning since they are not exposed to it outside of school in their digital environment.
Blending the best of both worlds. I think we need to teach student there is a time and place for different types of spelling, just like different types of writing styles.
That is a great point. While technology is helpful, it can also hamper basic skills.
