Beyond High School: Resources for Post-Secondary Options
Did you know that for every 1 gold collar job (doctor, lawyer, engineer, CEO), there are 2 white collar jobs (nurse, paralegal, drafter, manager) and 7 blue collar jobs (nurse's assistant, legal assistant, construction and manufacturing)?? It is referred to as the 1:2:7 ratio and has been this way for several decades.
It is not always necessary to go to a college or university to obtain a bachelor's degree, in fact, only 20% of the job market requires a 4-year degree. Check out "Success in the New Economy" by Kevin Fleming on YouTube if you are still not convinced.
What do all employers look for in an applicant? Soft skills, such as communication both verbally and written, eye contact, manners, being a team player, multi-tasking, problem solving, and being responsible top the charts. Employers also want someone who is not afraid to fail, and realize that he/she must work hard to be successful.
