  • WELCOME TO MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND!

    Calendar at a Glance:

     

    September 25, 2014  In-school Band Night Practice- Students will report to the HS stadium at 12:30 with instruments and music.  We will practice with the HS band and then return to the MS between 1:30-2:00.  All students need instruments and flip books with music.

    September 26, 2014 Band Night, Report time 5:30 to HS cafeteria.  Dress is blue and T-shirts, black pants and sneakers.  Dress for the weather: if students need to add something warm UNDER their T-shirts, they may.  Please stick with something black, blue, white or gray as these are our uniforms for the evening.  We will play pre-game with the HS band, probably starting at about 6:20.  We will then move into the stands and play pep tunes with the HS band for the first half of the game.  After the opposing team's half-time performance, students will be dismissed to put instruments away.  Students may leave at this time or re-enter the game for FREE with his/her band T-shirt on.

     October 14, 2014 Tailgate Party Performance.  Students will play pep tunes at the MS tailgate party and then proceed to the MS football game at the stadium.  Cost is $2 and includes pizza, wings, chips, drinks and other snacks!  We will play the SSB at the beginning of the MS football game and then stay for the first game to play pep tunes in the stands.  LOTS of fun!  Aprox. dismissal time is 5:30.  Wear band T-shirts.

    November 2014 After school rehearsals in preparation for the winter concert TBA, if necessary.

    December 8-10, 2014 Final rehearsalS for the Holiday Concert. All students need instruments and music. Students will come to the HS auditorium for the final practice. SCHEDULE TO COME!

    December 10, 2014 (Wednesday) Holiday Concert AND assembly. We will be presenting an afternoon assembly for the student body FROM 1:30-2:30  Parents or family members who cannot attend the evening concert are welcome to attend.  Plan to sign in (using the Raptor system, bring your drivers license) at the high school main entrance.  

    For the evening concert, students need to report the the HS band room by 6:45.  Dress is formal concert attire- black pants, white dress shirt, a tie for boys (any color) and dark colored dress shoes. The concert begins at 7:30 PM in the High School Auditorium.  This concert will feature all of our performing ensembles in the MS and should last just over an hour.  You are in for a real treat!  

    December 17-19, 2014 (Wed-Fri) Jazz Band Auditions, AM auditions between 8:00-11:00. Sign up sheet will be posted on bulletin board.

     

    February ??, 2015 (Friday) Professional Group Pictures for all music groups. Wear black and white concert attire to school.

    April 19-22 , 2015  In-school final concert rehearsals, schedule TBA

    April 22, 2015 (Wednesday)Spring Band Concert, 7:30 PM, High School Auditorium   

    April ??, 2015 (Saturday) Hanover Jazz Festival, details TBA

    May 25, 2015 (Monday) Dallastown Memorial Day Parade, 9:00 AM (Report to MS band room at 8:00 AM).  Dress is black pants, blue band T-shirts, and sneakers.

    • This is a very important document.  It answers many of the most frequently asked questions about band, outlines policies such as attendance, assessments, and repairs.  It also includes the performance schedule for the year, the band contract, T-shirt order form, parade permission slip -all papers that need to be signed and returned during the first two weeks of school.  Please read through this document and refer to it throughout the year!  

  • Band Sectionals
    • Sectional Rotation

      This document shows the full rotation of band sectionals throughout the year. Your child will be given a hard copy of this rotation each marking period too, to make it as easy as possible to know when to come to band sectionals. This document will also be posted outside of the band room and in homerooms and will scroll on the morning announcements each day to aid students in reporting to sectionals at the proper time.

      This document lists all band students in alphabetical order and cleary shows what sectional group they are assigned to.

    • These guidelines that have been set up between the music department, the administration and the teachers regarding rules for attendance of music sectionals throughout the year.

  • Band Playing Tests/Assessments

    Please see HAC for updated testing dates and materials. Other information regarding assessments can be found in the General Band Information section.

    • Jazz Band

      Jazz Band is an auditioned group. Auditions are open to students who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, drum set , guitar, bass and piano.

      Auditions materials will be posted immediately following Thanksgiving break and auditions will be held during the last week of school before the December holiday break. (See below for exact dates).

      Students will prepare audition materials on their own (or with the aid of their private teacher). Audition materials will not be taught during school.

      Rehearsals will begin on the first Friday in January, and each Friday thereafter, from 3:00-4:15.

    • Wind Ensemble

      This group is an advanced level band consisting of ALL sections of the band.  Students will be selected for this ensemble and will receive an invitation in the mail.  This group will meet on day 3 mornings from 7:30-8:10.  They will performa at the Winter concert, a Hershey Bear's game, the spring concert and a York Revolution game.  Additional performance opportunities may be added.

    • Wednesday, December 10, 2014 Holiday Concert, 7:30, HS auditorium

      Saturday, February 7, 2015-Hershey Bears game!  The wind ensemble will play the National Anthem before the hockey game.  Students will need to provide their own transportation to and from the game.  Tickets will be sold my Mrs. Ruth for family members and for students so we can all sit together at the game.  More info. to come!  Wear black pants and blue band T-shirts.

      Friday, May ??, 2015   pep rally Periods 7-9.  We will play pep music so bring your flip books!   Wear blue band shirts!

      May ??, 2015 -The wind ensemble will perform at a York Revolution game

  • Percussion Ensemble/Drumline

    • This group meets every Thursday after school from 3:00-4:15.  Be sure you have your binder with all of your music at each rehearsal.  The activity bus is available to take students home after this activity.
