Abstract: The Mythology of the Norsemen
Completion requirements
* This unit explains the creation story in Norse mythology and the various Norse gods and goddesses.
* Signy was a woman whose husband killed her father and brothers. She managed to save one brother named Sigmund, and they vowed they would have revenge.
* Sigmund and his son visited Signy and killed her husband and their children. She came out of the burning house to praise their glorious deed. Then, she went back into the house to die with her husband.
* Sigurd's story is one of deceit and tragedy.
* Norse mythology had a surprisingly depressing side; men were fated to suffer, the gods were fated to be defeated, the universe would fall, and evil would win.
* However, it was turned into a positive thing; both Norse men and gods could be true heroes.
* Unlike the Greek gods, the Norse gods were fully capable of being heroic and noble, and acted as better friends to men.
